Begin Tile Sequence:
Rock music, title cards over grainy video footage of riots, explosions and congressional hearings.
Title cards: "Tactical Gear", "Strategic Preparation", "Personal Defense".
Logo: FREEDOM FIRST!
The Freedom First logo is riddled with animated bullet holes and then explodes into a shower of bald eagles and American flags.
Fade to host, middle aged white male with beard. He's wearing a camo vest over a camo shirt in front of a camo wall. Yet, we see him perfectly.
Hello, YouTube. This is DontTread287 at the Freedom First channel with another video to help you survive in these uncertain times.
Today, we'll be looking at three examples of ordinary people who found themselves in dangerous situations and, because they were unprepared, paid the ultimate price.
A warning up front: if y'all are squeamish, these images may be hard to look at, but by watching them repeatedly, in slow motion, zoomed in and digitally corrected, you'll gain a wealth of knowledge about what it takes to be the one still standing... (dramatic pause)... when the smoke clears.
Let's look at our first clip.
This takes place in Brazil. A woman enters a convenience store with her daughter. Now watch as she leans into the ice cream freezer. A man enters with a gun, shows it to the cashier. Now, he's motioning to another person who happens to be an off duty policeman. The robber panics, he draws his weapon, but the policemen reacts more quickly and gets off the first shot.
Tragically, the woman, unaware of anything happening at all, stands up at that exact moment and puts herself directly into the line of fire. She is instantly killed. Let's talk about what might have prevented this incredibly sad event while the footage repeats seven times.
You don't want to ever blame the victim in this kind of situation, but it's worth mentioning that she is not paying sufficient attention to her surroundings. If she'd only taken the time to evaluate the number of people in the store, make a judgment as to their disposition and motives, and then applied those observations to a hypothetical criminal who had not yet entered the hypothetical combat zone. Then, it stands to reason that she might have known the risks of standing up after retrieving the ice cream instead of, let's say, dropping to the floor to execute a forward roll and a leg sweep before disarming or exchanging gunfire with the holdup man, assuming she'd been carrying concealed weapon.
Let's move along to our second example.
Here, we have a man riding in the back seat of a convertible. Now, this is broad daylight, folks. He is in public, he is not instigating any sort of trouble whatsoever. And right here. Watch what happens when the car comes around the other side of this sign... pow! Out of nowhere, a head shot. A tragic, needless death that could have been avoided if only he had taken the time to think. Let's see what this unfortunate guy could have done differently.
At the beginning of the clip, you can see he IS engaged with his surroundings. He is vigilant. He's making eye contact. He's even waving. Now, you might stop to consider... "is he drawing too much attention to himself?" And that 's valid. In fact, if we pull back, you can see that this man is actually part of a motorcade. With... with flags and, and, and policemen... like he's a big deal or somethin'.
Now listen. I support a free society. If you and your wife and the Governor of Texas want to pile into an open car travel in a motorcade through the streets of Dallas, you absolutely have that right. And I will defend that right to my death... by locking the doors of this basement and eating freeze-dried mashed potatoes for as long as it takes. But you have to be prepared for the consequences of your actions if you are going to draw that much attention to yourself. Let's look more closely and see if he is preparing himself for the inevitable.
Now, watch his face. Look at his field of vision. He is only concerning himself , and this is common among untrained citizens, concerning himself with the people in front of him. But where does the shot come from? Behind. The gunman was 81 meters behind this man which is why I preach and preach and preach it again that you need to have a sphere of awareness. Head on the swivel. 360 degrees. Always be asking yourself tactical questions. Like, "What's that guy doing?" "Who's this lady talking to?" "Is that a child or a short ninja?" "Is that a briefcase, or a handgun, or some kind of briefcase-handgun?" These are the questions you need to be asking yourself continuously, ladies and gentleman, because the moment you relax is the moment disaster is waiting for.
For this last one, y'all are gonna have to use your imaginations a bit, cause it's not a film clip. It's a photo of a wood engraving.
Now, look at what this follow is doing. This is a textbook example of exactly how not to protect yourself. There is only one door in this man's perimeter, and he has turned his back to it. He could not be more disengaged from his surroundings. In fact, if you can believe this, he's watching a play.
As you can see from this image, the victim is completely relaxed at the moment of the attack. He's not leaning forward on his seat, he's not assuming a Broken 'Y' stance, ready to move into a position of offensive advantage. And, again, you don't want to blame the victim, but it is much harder to assault or kill a person who is constantly expecting it. As we say here at Freedom First HQ, "The danger is maxed, when you are relaxed".
Reports tell us that just after this attack, the gunman yelled "Sic semper tyrannis," meaning "thus always to tyrants." You know what he should have yelled? "Sic semper unprepared theater goers", because THIS is exactly the risk you take when you let down your guard.
